Detroit's Davis, Colorado's Floyd and San Jose's Roe earn week eight honors
March 30, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
NEW YORK â Detroit Fury wide receiver/linebacker THABITI DAVIS, Colorado Crush defensive specialist RASHAD FLOYD and San Jose SaberCats wide receiver/linebacker JAMES ROE have been named Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player and U.S. Army Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Week 8 of the 2004 season.
Davis (6-2, 205, Wake Forest) led the Detroit Fury (3-4) to a 72-71 victory over Central Division rival Chicago Rush (5-2) on Sunday. The second-year star hauled in 12 receptions for a career-high 166 yards and five touchdowns. All five of Davis' touchdowns either tied the game or gave the Fury the lead. It was Davis' explosive game against one of the stingiest defenses, pushing the Detroit offense to reach the 72-point mark. Davis currently leads the Fury in receiving yards (690) and touchdowns (11). This marks the first time that the former Demon Deacon has earned an AFL weekly honor.
Floyd (6-0, 200, Portland State), who is in his third AFL season, led the Colorado Crush (6-2) to a 54-46 victory over the Arizona Rattlers (3-4) on Saturday. He had 11.5 total tackles, an interception, forced fumble and 4-yard net-recovery return for a touchdown. With the victory and the Chicago loss to Detroit, Colorado gained sole possession of first place in the Central Division. This marks the first time that the former Viking has earned an AFL weekly honor.
Roe (6-1, 198, Norfolk State), who is in his fifth AFL season, helped lead the San Jose SaberCats (6-1) to a 55-52 victory over the Los Angeles Avengers (4-3) on Friday. The 2003 All-Ironman performer tallied 10 receptions for 100 yards and two touchdowns on offense, 1.5 total tackles and a 7-yard interception return for a touchdown on defense. Roe's first touchdown reception was QB MARK GRIEB's 300th career and his interception broke Los Angeles QB TONY GRAZIANI's streak of 210 attempts without an interception. This marks the second time that the former Spartan has earned an AFL weekly honor.
