Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
Waldorf, MD - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs placed right-handed pitcher Eddie Rodriguez on the disabled list due to an upper-body injury. His disablement is retroactive to August 30th.
The right-hander from the Dominican was having a strong season. After starting the year in the bullpen and going 1-1 with a 2.28 ERA in 17 relief appearances, Rodriguez moved to the starting rotation and went 7-3 in 12 starts. In fact, Rodriguez had won five of his last six starts while compiling a 3.34 ERA.
Over that span, Rodriguez pitched three-complete games, which all resulted in Blue Crabs victories. He started his streak with a nine-inning complete game win at York on July 31st before allowing only two runs on seven hits on August 19th against Lancaster in a game that was shortened to five innings due to rain.
Rodriguez's third complete-game was his most recent start when he tossed seven shutout innings in game two of a doubleheader win over the Road Warriors on Monday.
The Blue Crabs head to Lancaster to take on the Barnstormers in a three-game series, which begins on Saturday at 6:30 from Clipper Magazine Stadium. Southern Maryland will send Michael Schlact (6-3, 4.09 ERA) to the hill against fellow righty Matt Wright (5-10, 4.42 ERA) of the Barnstormers. The game can be heard on www.somdbluecrabs.com.
