Rodriguez, Johnson Win Dragons/WING Monthly Awards

DAYTON, OHIO - For the fifth consecutive season, the Dayton Dragons and 1410 ESPN Radio WING AM have teamed up to honor the Dayton Dragons 1410 ESPN Radio Hitter and Pitcher of the Month. After fan voting this week, Henry Rodriguez (hitter) and Jacob Johnson (pitcher) were selected as the August Players of the Month.

Rodriguez, the Dragons starting second baseman until his promotion to Lynchburg earlier this week, enjoyed a huge month. In 29 games, he is batted .381 with six doubles, one triple, three home runs and 19 runs batted in. For the season, Rodriguez batted .307 with 14 home runs and 78 RBI. Other nominees for Hitter of the Month were shortstop Didi Gregorius and outfielder Ryan LaMarre.

Johnson made five starts for the Dragons in August, posting a 3-0 record with a 4.50 earned run average. Johnson was also the Dragons Pitcher of the Month in June. For the year, he is 8-6 with a 4.37 ERA. Other nominees for the Pitcher of the Month were Clayton Shunick and Doug Salinas.

Johnson and Shunick, who went 3-1 in August, will appear at the Player of the Month luncheon at 12:00 noon tomorrow (Friday, September 3) at Bob Evans Restaurant, 5571 Merily Way in Huber Heights. Players will be available to sign autographs and speak with fans.
