Hot Rods Pitchers Shut Down Dragons, 5-1

Dayton, Ohio-Bowling Green starting pitcher Kyle Lobstein fired six shutout innings and Julio Cedeno collected four hits to lead the Hot Rods to a 5-1 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Thursday night before a crowd of 8,671 at Fifth Third Field. The Hot Rods have won the first two games of the series and will try for a sweep on Friday night.

Lobstein (9-8) allowed just two hits over six innings, walking three and striking out seven. The Dragons did not score until Frank Pfister's solo home run leading off the bottom of the ninth inning.

Dragons starting pitcher Jacob Johnson suffered the loss to fall to 8-7. He worked five and one-third innings, allowing three hits and four runs with two walks and two strikeouts.

Four of the five Bowling Green runs came in the sixth inning as they sent 10 batters to the plate. Dragons pitchers walked four in the inning and the club also committed an error as the Hot Rods jumped ahead 5-0.

The Dragons collected just four hits. Pfister was 2 for 3 with the home run.

The Dragons (21-44, 51-83) host Bowling Green on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field in the last game of the series. Clayton Shunick (3-1, 4.08), winner of his last three starts, will pitch for Dayton. The game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Time Warner Channel 23). Ohio State head baseball coach Greg Beals will provide color commentary.
