Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Broomfield, CO 1/3/09 - Three Rocky Mountain goals in less than two minutes of playing time during the second period proved the undoing for the Amarillo Gorillas Saturday, falling to the Rage 4-1 at the Broomfield Event Center.

A.J. Bucchino held the Gorillas in it through one period, stopping 12 first-period Rage shots to preserve a 0-0 tie after 20 minutes. Rocky Mountain got on the board early in the second, however, with Brent Cullaton scoring a shorthanded goal to draw first blood at 2:24.

The Rage continued their offensive onslaught, with Nathan O'Nabigon potting a rebound chance in the slot to extend the lead, 2-0. Just 14 seconds afterwards, the Gorillas ceded a third Rocky Mountain tally, this time to defenseman Pat Sutton. Within the span of 1:37, the Rage found themselves with a commanding 3-0 lead.

Amarillo began to chip away at the deficit when Jake Morissette sent Jonathan Ornelas on a shorthanded breakaway late in the second-Ornelas scored by Rage goaltender Marty Magers to draw Amarillo within two.

Magers would stonewall the Gorillas on ensuing opportunities, though, as the Rage added a Colt King empty net goal late in the final period to solidify the 4-1 victory.

The Amarillo (10-20-0) loss breaks the Gorillas' two-game road winning streak, as Bucchino dropped to 0-2-0 on the season, despite stopping 30 of 33 chances from Rage sticks. Amarillo will play their next contest Friday at the Budweiser Events Center against the Colorado Eagles.
