Beynon's Winner Gives Scorps Victory

January 3, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Michael Beynon scored his first career game winning goal, giving the Scorpions a 3-2 overtime victory against Rio Grande Valley. The victory was the Scorps third in the last five games.

The Scorpions started Saturday's game the same way they started Friday's game, with a power play goal. Torren Delforte scored for the second consecutive game with a rebound goal.

The teams traded goals in the second period. Neil Trimm scored his eighth of the season as his shot deflected off the goaltender's stick and into the net. The Killer Bees got on the board when Zak McClellan roofed home a power play goal.

The Scorpions tried to add to their lead but Rio Grande Valley goalie Christian Boucher stood tall keeping his team in the game. Jesse Bennefield found himself with the puck in the slot and tied the game with under five minuets to go.

The Scorpions embark on a six game road trip, their longest of the season, starting Wednesday in Rocky Mountain. After an off day the same two teams will battle on Friday night at the Broomfield Event Center.

Group tickets and corporate partnership prices are now more affordable than ever after the Scorpions reduced prices across the board. Call the Scorpions' office at (505) 881-PUCK (7825) or visit www.scorpionshockey.com to find out more information about your professional hockey team. The Scorpions have been named the 2008 Rio Rancho Rotary Business of the Year.
