
Rockies Win to Open Series in Great Falls

With the aid of three runs in first and fifth innings, the Grand Junction Rockies drew even on their 7-game Montana road trip with a 6-3 win over the Great Falls Voyagers Monday night at Centene Stadium.
Wes Rogers started the night with a double down the third baseline, and with one out, he scored on Collin Ferguson's RBI single. Sam Hilliard followed with a walk, and Tyler Nevin a single to load the bases, setting up Daniel Suero for a 2-run single to make it 3-0 Rockies.
Michael Zimmerman allowed a leadoff single to Frank Califano in the bottom of the first, but retired the next eight he faced. That streak ended when Califano tripled, and Antonio Rodriguez followed with a single to get the Voyagers on the board, and they got within a run in the fourth when Dante Flores scored from third on a wild pitch. Zimmerman allowed the two runs on four hits in four innings with a career-high four strikeouts.
Grand Junction expanded the lead with three runs in the fifth. Tyler Nevin started it with a single, and after Suero moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt, Chris Rabago, Jonathan Piron, and Bobby Stahel followed with doubles to make it 6-2. Great Falls scored a run in the sixth to make it a three run game.
Great Falls had they tying run on base in the bottom of the eighth, but Daniel Koger struck out Casey Schroeder to keep the lead. Hunter Brothers retired the side in order in the ninth for his fourth save. Alec Crawford earned the win after tossing a 1-2-3 fifth inning.
Rogers, Rabago and Stahel had two hits for the Rockies, who improve to 5-12 in the second half. Ferguson had a hit, a walk, and was hit by a pitch.
