Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

For the first time in 2015, the Pioneer League's best got a welcome midseason break with the addition of the inaugural interleague Pioneer-Northwest League All-Star game to the leagues' schedules. This season's contest, held in Spokane, saw three Grand Junction players among those in attendance and making an impact. Pitcher Hunter Brothers and center fielder Daniel Suero were among the league's initial round of selections to this year's showcase event while outfielder Jensen Park was added later as a Pioneer League alternate.

The younger brother of Rockies pitcher Rex Brothers, Hunter looks like his big league brother except throws from the right side. In the season's first half, Brothers pitched in 13 games and posted a 2-1 record and a 2.87 ERA with 24 strikeouts against just 11 walks in 22 innings pitched. Brothers was drafted in the 30th round last year out of Lipscomb University and has pitched both of his professional seasons with Grand Junction.

In his first season in the States, Dominican outfielder Suero has been an offensive threat in virtually every way for the Rockies. In 29 games before the Break, Suero batted .316/.340/.461 with 15 extra-base hits and 13 stolen bases. Suero was also an All-Star last season in the Dominican Summer League during his professional debut season. He finished that season with a .265/.286/.339 slash line.

The 2015 Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Northern Colorado product Jensen Park tore up the Pioneer League during his stay with Grand Junction. Park went into the All-Star Break with a .359/.377/.583 line, having mashed three homers and driven in 23 runs. The outfielder also showed his versatility by batting in every single spot in the Rockies order at various points through his 30 total games in Junction.

All three Rockies saw action in the Pioneer-Northwest showcase with Suero leading off and playing the entire game in center field. Suero went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a run scored. Park started in right field and notched one hit in two trips to the plate. Brothers pitched the eighth inning and allowed one run while striking out a man.

The Northwest rallied in the 10th inning to capture a 6-5 walk-off victory before 7,083 fans.
