July 7, 2016 - Pioneer League (PL)
Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release
In the second start of his professional career, Riley Pint allowed two runs over three innings in the Grand Junction Rockies 15-3 loss to the Orem Owlz Thursday night in Orem.
Pint allowed hits to the first three hitters he faced, but recovered to retire the last nine, striking out two. He was tagged with the loss despite throwing 38 pitches, 29 for strikes.
After Orem scored the two first inning runs, the Rockies loaded the bases in the second inning and scored a run when Cesar Galvez singled home Jose Gomez, but Manny Melendez lined into a double play keeping the score 2-1, and the Rockies couldn't score in the third despite having runners at first and third with nobody out.
With Pint out of the game, Orem scored an unearned run in the fourth, and blew the game open with an eight run, nine hit sixth inning to make it 11-3. After the Rockies scored two unearned runs in the seventh, the Owlz put up a 4-spot in the eighth to finish the scoring.
Gomez had three hits and scored a run, but also committed three errors, leading to five unearned runs.
Jonathan Piron added two hits in five at bats, while Pedro Gonzalez had a hit and two stolen bases.
The loss drops the Rockies to 10-10 on the season, three games back of Orem for first place in the South Division. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
