Ogden Raptors News Release
OGDEN - Cody Thomas smacked a two-run home run for the second straight day after arriving in Ogden and the Raptors (6-14) hung on for their second-straight win, 5-4, over Idaho Falls (11-9) on Thursday night.
Thomas' home run came in the bottom of the first inning, sailing 413 feet over Raptor Ridge in right centerfield. A 13th-round selection by the Dodgers this season out of the University of Oklahoma, Thomas was a quarterback for the Sooners in addition to being an outfielder.
The Raptors extended the lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Gersel Pitre and a two-single by Ibandel Isabel. Isabel now leads the Pioneer League with 21 RBI in 17 games played.
Rob McDonnell made his first professional start, allowing a single hits and no runs in three innings while striking out three. Johan Diaz (1-0) earned his first win, allowing three unearned runs in 2 2/3 innings.
Meibrys Viloria and Yeison Melo slapped back-to-back RBI doubles in the sixth inning to bring the Chukars to within two runs, 5-3. Then in the seventh inning, Ryan Dale and Nick Heath both walked on four pitches and Luke Willis also later walked to load the bases without a single hit. But Angelo Castellano and Manny Olloque both popped out to end the inning without a run. Idaho Falls stranded two more runners in the eighth and scored a single run in the ninth before Viloria grounded out to end the game.
Gregor Mora (1) earned the save, scattering two hits and an unearned run over the final three innings.
The Raptors travel to Grand Junction for a four-game series beginning Friday night. Pregame coverage begins at 6:15pm MT on the Ogden Raptors Baseball Network. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
