Frisco RoughRiders News Release
MIDLAND, TEXAS-The RockHounds scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth, on an RBI single by Anthony Aliotti, to defeat the "ËRiders 7-6 Monday night at Citibank Ballpark. Since clinching the first half South Division title, the "ËRiders have lost three in a row, to tie the team's longest losing streak of the season.
Pitching in his 14th game of the season, Jake Brigham got a rude west Texas welcome in the bottom of the first. Conner Crumbliss drilled a lead-off triple, and scored one batter later on a single by Tyler Ladendorf. Ahead by a run, the "ËHounds tacked on three more, thanks to a 3-run shot by Michael Choice.
The "ËRiders went on the counter-attack in the third. Jared Prince singled off "ËHounds starter Sonny Gray, and moved up to second after Guilder Rodriguez walked. Jurickson Profar then singled home Prince, to trim the deficit to three.
With Mike Olt at the plate, a bizarre play allowed Rodriguez to score. On a throw back to the pitcher's mound, "ËHounds catcher Ryan Lipkin tossed the ball over the head of his pitcher Gray. Alert, the "ËRiders second baseman sprinted home to make it 4-2. Olt then tied the score, slamming a 2-run homer to left.
In the bottom of the fifth, Midland took the lead back. Following a walk to Anthony Aliotti, and an error by Jurickson Profar, Josh Horton doubled home both runners, to return Midland's lead to two.
Jose Felix extended his hitting streak to nine games with a solo home run in the seventh, while Alex Buchholz re-tied the game with an RBI single off Paul Smyth (2-1) in the top of eighth. However the RockHounds scored the go-ahead off Ryan Rodebaugh (1-2) in the home half of the frame, as Anthony Aliotti singled in Ryan Lipkin.
Paul Smyth picked up the win for the RockHounds despite giving up the tying run in the eighth. The right-hander gave up one run on two hits and walked two. Ryan Rodebaugh suffered the loss for the RoughRiders, he worked three innings, allowed one run, walked three and struck out three.
Frisco plays the second of four games against Midland Tuesday night. Southpaw Tim Murphy (3-7, 6.51) makes his 14th start of the season for the "ËRiders, he will be opposed by "ËHounds right-hander Gary Daley Jr (7-3, 5.08).
