San Antonio Missions News Release
San Antonio - The Missions have started to gain some momentum heading into the all-star break by winning their fourth straight in a 10-1 victory over the Corpus Christi Hooks.
Corpus was on the board first, scoring on a delayed double steal by Andy Simunic and Jonathan Villar in the top of the first. The Missions then scored 10 straight to open up a nine-run lead, the first coming on an RBI groundout by Nate Freiman, his first of three for the game. He now leads the Texas League with 60 RBI's, one more than Frisco's Mike Olt.
Two innings later, the Missions had their third-biggest inning of the season, racking up eight runs on five hits. After back-to-back walks by Dean Anna and Jonathan Galvez to start the inning, Freiman doubled to center to score both. Jake Blackwood then hit a two-run single bringing the lead to 5-1. San Antonio sent 13 batters to the plate by the end of the inning.
Corpus Christi batters could get nothing going off Missions' starter Andrew Cashner, who was optioned June 10 by San Diego to be converted to a starter. After allowing three hits in the first two innings, he retired nine straight batters to end his night.
San Antonio was led by the hitting of Anna, Blackwood, and Edinson Rincon who all went 3-4 on the night and crossed the plate five times combined. Cashner earns his first win as a Mission after getting a no decision in his first start June 13 against the Hooks.
The Missions improve to 28-41 on the season, ending a four game losing streak to the Hooks, who drop to 36-33 overall. Tonight's win matches the Missions' longest winning streak of the season at four. Tomorrow's starters will be lefty Andrew Werner (1-8, 4.26 ERA) for San Antonio and Jarred Cosart (3-4, 4.50 ERA) for Corpus Christi.
