Hooks Split Series with Sunday Night Win

FRISCO, TEXAS- After waiting through a rain delay that lasted just over an hour and a half, Corpus Christi outlasted Frisco in an 11-inning battle 14-5 Sunday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

The Hooks were the first to score putting up three runs in the third. Drew Muren led off the inning with a double to right field before moving to third on a sacrifice bunt from Jonathan Villar. With one out, Andrew Simunic stepped into the box, doubling to right field scoring Muren. Simunic scored after Jose Martinez singled, while the Hooks second baseman advanced to second after Val Majewski's throw got to the backstop. One batter later, Martinez scored on an RBI single by Jon Singleton.

Corpus Christi starter Brett Oberholtzer set down 12 straight 'Riders before allowing his first base runner of the night on a walk to Mike Olt. Oberholtzer then induced a fly out before Val Majewski hit a ground ball to third that retired Olt at second. Jared Prince then reached safely after a fielding error by Hooks' third baseman Andrew Simunic bringing up Zach Zaneski. With two outs and two men on, Zaneski doubled to right, plating Majewski and Prince making the score 3-2. Guilder Rodriguez then grounded out to end the fifth. A solo home run in the sixth by Jurickson Profar evened the score at three.

Both teams added two runs in the ninth sending the game into extra innings. Relievers Joseph Ortiz and Erick Abreu combined for a scoreless tenth. In the eleventh, 'Riders outfielder Val Majewski (0-1) and Guilder Rodriguez took turns on the mound, allowing nine runs giving the Hooks the win.

Majewski was tagged with the loss, pitching 0.2 innings. He allowed seven earned runs. Erick Abreu picked up his seventh win of the season. The righthander pitched two inning, allowing one hit and walking one.

Frisco travels to Midland to begin a four-game series with the RockHounds Monday night. Jake Brigham (3-3, 4.02) gets the start for Frisco. He is opposed by Sonny Gray (2-5, 4.55).
