Midland RockHounds News Release
MIDLAND, Texas - The Midland RockHounds erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fourth and went on to defeat the Hooks 8-4 Tuesday night in the opener of this four-game series at Citibank Ballpark. The Hooks, at 29-27, are now three games out of first in the Texas League South with 14 remaining to play in the second half.
Corpus Christi jumped on Midland starter Bobby Cramer for two runs in the first. Drew Sutton singled and Neil Sellers doubled to put runners at second and third with nobody out. Ground ball outs by both Ray Sadler and Michael Johnson brought Sutton and Sellers in for a 2-0 Hooks' lead.
Midland, which had lost eight of its previous 10 games, rallied against Hooks' starter Brian Bogusevic in the fourth. With the bases loaded and one out, Myron Leslie drilled a single to left to plate both Richie Robnett and Vasili Spanos to knot the score at 2-2. Luke Appert followed with a double to left to give the home team its first lead of the evening at 4-2. Vince Faison's two-out RBI single capped the rally and put the RockHounds up 5-2.
Leslie finished the night 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI's to pace Midland's 14-hit attack. Faison, returning to the RockHounds' lineup after spending time on the bereavement list after the passing of his father, went 3-for-4 with three RBI's.
Cramer (5-0) earned the win by limiting the Hooks to three runs, two earned, on seven hits and a walk in 6.1 innings. He struck out seven and picked up his fourth win as a starter in five tries.
Bogusevic (0-1) suffered the loss, charged with five runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings. The lefty carried a one-hit shutout into the fourth, when he was greeted by consecutive singles off the bats of Brian Snyder, Robnett and Spanos.
The two clubs go at it again Wednesday night when Miguel Asencio of the Hooks squares off against Midland's Ben Fritz. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
