Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- For the seventh time this season the Rockford IceHogs and Missouri River Otters dropped the puck and for the seventh time Rockford topped Missouri. The Hogs knocked off the River Otters 4-2 in front of 3,316 at the Rockford MetroCentre.
Missouri grabbed the 1-0 lead in the first period when Frank Littlejohn deflected in a perfect pass from defenseman Tim O'Connell at 8:12. Rockford later tied the game late in the second period when rookie center Yannick Tifu snapped a shot past Missouri goalie Kevin Reiter at 17:08.
In the third period, Rockford took their first lead when defenseman Corey Hessler blasted in a face off pass from Steve Yetman at 5:51. Later, center Preston Mizzi put Rockford up 3-1 when his second backhanded attempt beat Reiter at 17:05.
The River Otters wouldn't go away, however, as Littlejohn would snap home his second tally of the night at 18:02 of the final frame to cut the Rockford lead to 3-2. But with Reiter pulled, and moments after Missouri nearly tied the contest, rookie winger Robin Big Snake sealed the game for Rockford with an empty net goal at 19:40.
Hogs goalie Ronnie Vogel earned the win turning away 25 Otters shots. Reiter made 33 saves in the loss. Both teams finished the night 0-for-7 on the power play.
