Klein, Robinson lead Hogs to 6-1 win

Moline, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs offense came back to life Sunday afternoon, as the Hogs topped the Quad City Mallards 6-1 at the MARK of the Quad Cities. Rookie defenseman Kevin Klein scored two goals and goaltender Michel Robinson held the Mallards to just one-goal for the third straight game.

After a sluggish start in which the Mallards out shot the Hogs 10-2 through the games first 8:00 minutes, the Hogs exploded for three tallies. Center Olivier Proulx lit the first lamp at 10:18, flipping in a loose puck over Mallards goalie Jeff Reynaert. Klein then fired home his first goal of the night while the Hogs skated on a 4-on-3 power play at 13:01. Defenseman Vince Malts made the score 3-0 at 18:41 with another power play goal.

After the intermission, the Mallards found themselves on a power play and winger Paul Cabana tallied at the 1:33 mark to cut the lead to two. Later in the period, the Hogs were down two skaters due to penalties. Just as the Hogs got a skater back, d-man Nathan Lutz set Klein up in front off the Mallards net for a shorthanded goal at 14:32, giving Rockford the 4-1 advantage.

Robinson made some key saves early in the third period to preserve the IceHogs three-goal lead before Rockford iced the game. Winger Terry Harrison knocked home a rebound at 15:07 to make the score 5-1 before winger Eric Labelle finished the scoring at 17:11 with another Hogs power play goal.

To earn the win, Robinson turned away 30 Mallards shots and the IceHogs finished the game 3-for-10 on the power play. The two teams also tied an IceHogs franchise record with 19 power play opportunities combined, the third time this season the Hogs have done that. Proulx (1g-1a), Labelle (1g-1a), Harrison (1g-1a), Malts (1g-1a), Lutz (2a) and Klein (2g) all recorded multi-point games for Rockford.

Next Home Game: Friday, December 10 vs. Quad City Mallards. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. The Hogs and Mallards match-up for the sixth time this season and fourth at the MetroCentre. The first 1,000 fans to pass through the turnstiles will receive an IceHogs Smash Hit Hockey Poster #3 from Medicine Man, Johnson Press, Pepsi, Rockford Register Star and 97ZOK.
