Rockford IceHogs News Release

Frasier, Mich.- Coming into Saturday night's game against the Motor City Mechanics, the Rockford IceHogs were stuck on a season worst three-game losing streak. The Hogs ended that however, topping the Mechanics 2-1 in the shootout. For the third time this season, the shootout went to nine rounds for the IceHogs.

After a scoreless first period, both teams would capitalize on power play markers in the second period. Motor City was first to score, as Dan Price blasted home a power play goal past Hogs goalie Jeff Harvey. The IceHogs responded at the 9:33 mark when feisty center Olivier Proulx tipped in a Kevin Klein slap shot on the power play.

Each goaltender, Harvey and the Mechanics Rod Branch, would shut down both offenses, sending the game to the shootout. In regulation, Harvey turned away 36 shots to pick up his fifth win of the season, while Branch stopped 32 Rockford shots to earn his team a standings point.

In the shootout, the IceHogs received an extra session goal from defenseman Cory Laylin in round four, but Mechanics forward Joe Burton tied the shootout on Motor City's next shot, forcing a sudden death shootout. After defenseman Rod Aldoff beat Branch in the ninth round, Harvey turned Jason Norrie away to give Rockford their 14 win of the season.

Next Home Game: Friday, December 10 vs. Quad City Mallards. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs and Mallards exchange pleasantries once again at the Rockford MetroCentre. The first 1,000 fans will receive an IceHogs Smash Hit Hockey Poster #3 courtesy of Medicine Man, Johnson Press, Pepsi, Rockford Register Star and 97ZOK.
