TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The first of four meetings, the first of two at home. Richmond was 0-5 vs. Kalamazoo last season, 0-2 at home. The âDogs are 2-0-1 vs. the Central Division. The Wings are 1-1 vs. the East. Kalamazoo had allowed the fewest goals (39) in the UHL at the start of the week. The âDogs are fourth in the Eastern Conference, three points back of Elmira with four games in hand on the Jackals. The Wings are third in the Central Division, five points back of Flint with two games in hand.
LAST ACTION: Richmond beat Elmira 2-1 on the road last night. The âDogs jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Kyle Sheen and Jonathan Gagnon. Ryan McIntosh made 33 saves as Richmond was out-shot 34-18. The Wings won in a shootout at Adirondack last night 5-4. The Wings trailed in the third period when Faron Duthie scored to tie it. Gary Shaneberger had a goal and assist. Joel Martin stopped all five Frostbite shots in the shootout.
'DOG BITES: The âDogs are playing their third game in three nights. The âDogs are 2-0-1 vs. the Central Division. Kyle Sheen has points in five straight games. Two of his three goals have been game winners. The 'Dogs went 4-5 in a stretch of nine straight games vs. the Eastern Division that ended last night. Richmond still has at least two games in hand on the rest of the East. The 'Dogs have been out-shot in eight of their last nine games. The âDogs have killed off 11 straight opponents power plays. Richmond snapped an 0-16 power play slump last night. The 'Dogs have held opponents to two or fewer goals in their last five wins. They have allowed 35 goals in their last five losses. Five of the seven games in the UHL last night were decided in shootouts. Only one of the seven was decided by more than one goal. Trevor Senn is fourth in the UHL in penalty minutes.
WINGS NOTES: Kalamazoo is playing their third game in three nights in three cities and fourth in five nights on the road vs. an Eastern Division club. Their last two games have been decided in shootouts. The Wings are 2-2-1 vs. the East. The Wings have a better record on the road (6-4-1) than at home (4-4).
