The Vancouver Giants defeated the Kelowna Rockets 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday night at Prospera Place.
The Rockets struck first 2:19 into the opening frame when Erik Gardiner(7) poked home a rebound that came from a Braydyn Chizen point shot and the Rockets led 1-0. Vancouver replied at 7:44 as Owen Hardy(11) slid one past Rockets netminder James Porter and the score was 1-1 after 20 minutes of play.
Early in the second period Vancouver forward Ty Ronning(56) scored a power play marker to pull the Giants ahead by one. Carsen Twarynski scored his team leading 41st on the power play at 6:33 and the game was even once again. The score remained knotted at two's until Twarynski(42) ripped his second of the evening on the power play with 47 seconds to go in the period and Kelowna led 3-2 after 40 minutes.
The Rockets held a one goal lead until late in the third period when Alex Kannok Leipert(5) picked up a rebound and made it a 3-3 game with only 3:38 to go. Regulation time solved nothing and the game was headed to overtime.
Giants Captain Tyler Benson(24) finished Kelowna's night ending the game in overtime with 1:04 remaining in the extra frame for a 4-3 Giants victory.
James Porter's record is now 19-9-4-1 after stopping 32 of the 36 shots he faced. Kelowna outshot Vancouver 38-36.
