
Rockets blast past Americans

The Kelowna Rockets launched back into the win column with an 8-3 victory over the Tri-City Americans on Wednesday night at Prospera Place.
Matthew Wedman picked up a hat trick and Pavel Novak racked up five points (one goal, four assists) as the Rockets snapped a five-game losing streak and picked up their 24th win of the season.
Tri-City opened the scoring 2:48 into the game with a power-play tally from Edge Lambert (11). The Rockets answered 1:35 later when Kyle Topping fed a streaking Pavel Novak (19) at the blueline. Kelowna jumped in front with a power-play goal from Matthew Wedman (13).
Dillon Hamaliuk, Kyle Topping (9) and Wedman (14) pushed the Rockets to a 5-1 lead during the second period.
Connor Bouchard (10) scored a shorthanded goal eight seconds into the final stanza. Matthew Wedman (15) completed the hat trick at 3:28, the second three-goal game of his WHL career, Defenceman Tyson Feist (1) netted his first WHL goal give the Rockets a 7-2 lead. American Tyson Greenway (1) also scored his first Western Hockey League goal, 1:22 after Feists. Mark Liwiski (7) capped off the scoring just past the midway point.
Kelowna went one-for-five with the power play, while Tri-City was one-for-two with the man advantage.
Roman Basran stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced. The Rockets outshot the Ams 45-27.

Jarod Newell, Sean Comrie (upper body), Michael Farren (upper body), Liam Kindree (upper body) and Nolan Foote (lower body) were the Rockets scratches.
