Saskatoon, SK - The Brandon Wheat Kings earned an important two points on Wednesday night in a 5-1 win over the Saskatoon Blades.
Connor Gutenberg (1G-3A), Ridly Greig (2G-2A) and Braden Schnieder (1G-1A) each had multi-point nights while Jiri Patera kicked aside 22 shots for the win.
"I liked our game tonight from start to finish," said Assistant Coach Don MacGillivray. "We scored some nice goals tonight, two on the powerplay and one shorthanded. We had a lot of guys doing the little things right tonight and it was a real solid win."
Brandon's special teams was clicking on Wednesday, scoring twice on the powerplay and added another one while shorthanded. The Wheat Kings killed off all three Blades powerplays and have kept their powerplay off the board in all eleven chances this season.
"This is a big win for us," added MacGillivray. "To come on the road, in this building against a good team, this was an important win and it's something we can build on moving forward this weekend."
The win gives Brandon 61 points on the year, and helps them regain sole possesion of third place in the East Division.
"We're getting more confident in how we have to play to be successful," said MacGillivray. "Tonight we did a real nice job and played how we wanted to. We didn't become undicipline after the whistle and we did a lot of good things to earn a win on the road."
These two teams will meet again on Friday night at Westoba Place. (7:30 on QCountry Radio).
