Green Bay Rockers News Release
Wausau, Wis. - The Green Bay Rockers could not keep up with the offense of the Wausau Woodchucks as they dropped their fourth straight game, losing 9-3 to Wausau Friday night at Athletic Park.
The Rockers are now 1-4 on the season while the Woodchucks improve to 2-3 on the season after winning back-to-back games.
The Woodchucks wasted no time in the first inning, scoring two runs on two hits after a walk and double put two runners in scoring position.
A passed ball and wild pitch brought those runners home, giving the Woodchucks a 2-0 after the first inning of play.
Following a scoreless second inning for both teams, the Woodchucks added to their lead, plating two more runs across in the third, to take a 4-0 lead through three innings.
The Rockers got their first hits of the night in the top of the fourth but could not score as they stranded two runners on base.
Green Bay got their first runs of the game in the fifth, scoring one run off a wild pitch to cut the deficit to three at 4-1, through the first five innings of the game.
However, the Woodchucks increased their lead by four once again in the sixth after a solo home run by Norris McClure, increasing the score to 5-1 in favor of the Woodchucks.
Wausau added to their lead in the seventh after an RBI double from Ike Mezzenga to make it 6-3 Wausau through seven innings.
The Rockers plated two runs in the top of the eighth off an RBI single from Griffin Stevens and a sacrifice fly by Matt Scannell, to cut the lead to three.
The momentum for the Rockers was short-lived however, as the Woodchucks added three more runs, capping off their nine-run outing and leading 9-3 through eight innings.
The Rockers went down 1-2-3 in the ninth as the Woodchucks took home the victory at home, their second in as many nights.
The Rockers will conclude their opening series with the Woodchucks on Saturday at Capital Credit Union Park. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. at home with the pregame concert performed by Conscious Pilot starting at 5:35 p.m.
