
Rockers Fall to Rivets in First of Five-Game Road Trip

Rockford, Ill.-The Green Bay Rockers fell to the Rockford Rivets 9-5 Friday night at Rivets Stadium in the first of four meetings between the two teams this summer.
The Rockers drop to 6-13 on the season while the Rivets go to 9-10 on the season heading into Saturday's matchup as the Rockers will look to split the series heading into their next matchup.
The Rivets scored in the bottom of the first to grab an early lead off an RBI sacrifice fly, taking a 1-0 lead heading into the second inning.
Michael Fowler pitched a scoreless second inning of work, striking out three batters in the first two innings pitched as the Rockers looked to score their first runs of the game heading into the third.
Following a scoreless third inning for both sides, the Rivets added to their lead off an RBI single, followed by three more runs scored off RBI singles and a wild pitch, as they led 5-0 after the first four innings of play.
Rockford tacked on one more run in the fifth inning on an RBI groundout, taking a 6-0 lead heading into the sixth.
Another RBI groundout from Rockford plated home their seventh run of the game as they led 7-0 through six innings of play.
The Rivets added one more run in each of the final two innings of offense off an RBI single and home run to lead 9-0 heading into the ninth.
The Rockers plated their first runs of the game in the ninth off RBI singles by Owen Jackson and Keniel De Leon made it a 9-2 game.
Tristin Garcia scored two more on a two RBI double and an RBI sacrifice fly made it 9-5 with two outs in the ninth.
The Rivets struck out the side to close out the game, despite the late five-run rally for Green Bay as the Rockers fell to 5-5 on the road this season.
The Rockers will take on the Rivets for the second straight day and will look to split the two-game series on Saturday to conclude the series on the road. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. at Rivets Stadium.
