Fond du Lac Dock Spiders News Release
FOND DU LAC, WI - Both the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders and the Madison Mallards used 10-plus run wins to split a doubleheader at Warner Park in Madison, Wisconsin on Thursday.
The Dock Spiders went to 9-8 on the year after the split, second in the Great Lakes West Division. Madison went to 8-9, a half-game behind the Dock Spiders in the standings.
In game one, the Dock Spiders tied their season-high with 15 runs and Alejandro Macario (Nova Southeastern) tied his career-high with three hits and five RBI. Macario tallied a single in the first, an RBI fielder's choice in the third, a two-RBI single in the fourth and capped off the afternoon with a two-run double in the fifth. He was responsible for seven of the Dock Spiders 15 runs. The win also snapped a five-game skid for Fond du Lac.
Tyler Tornberg (Rutgers) earned his first win of the summer while Justin Miller (1-1) took the loss for Madison.
The Dock Spiders tallied a run in five of their nine innings, with an eight-run fourth inning, sending 12 men to the plate with five hits and two Mallards errors. Every Dock Spiders batter who appeared in the game tallied a hit, including multi-hit performances from Tyeler Hawkins (Louisville) and Macario. Tyler Tornberg (Rutgers), Caedon Kottinger (UCLA) and David Craig (College of San Mateo) combined to throw six shutout innings in relief, allowing just two hits while striking out seven.
In the nightcap, the Mallards put up 12 runs, while the Dock Spiders were limited to two runs in the second in a 12-2 loss. Evan Stone (South Carolina) tallied an RBI single in the second to reach base in his 14th of the last 16 games. The Mallards tallied nine runs in the final three innings, including two home-runs to left field in the eighth and ninth.
West Virginia righty David Hagaman (1-1) took the loss for Fond du Lac while Kade Lancour (1-0) earned the win.
The Dock Spiders return home to Herr-Baker Field for a one-night homestand against the Lakeshore Chinooks on Friday. It marks the first Fireworks Friday presented by Kwik Trip, the first 500 fans receive a Weaver bobblehead and it's Down Syndrome Acceptance Night.
