Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, WI - The Mallards have dropped three of their last four after falling to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters on Friday night by a score of 12-4. Madison has lost all three of their Friday night games at Warner Park this season.
The Mallards gave the ball to Meade Johnson (L, 0-1) in his second start of the season and was jumped on early in the contest. Two 1st inning home runs give the Rafters an early 3-0 advantage. The Rafters would go on to score four more runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings against Mallards' reliever Kyle Walter in his first appearance of the year. The brightest arm of the day for the Ducks was Declan Elias. Elias (2.2 IP, 1 H, 5 K) inherited two runners from Walter and only allowed one to score in relief.
The Mallards took a swing at an early comeback in the 3rd after a walk and single began the inning at the plate. With nobody out Christian Rivera launched his third home-run of the season to cut the Rafters lead to four against Wisconsin Rapids' starter Michael Lindsey. The next offense in the game came from the Ducks once again in the 5th. With one out in the frame the Mallards have three consecutive batters reach base. Noah Smith, making his Ducks debut, singled home J.T. Mabry for his first RBI of the year. With the tying run at the plate, Caleb Favors strikes out the next two Madison bats to strand the baserunners. The Rafters boosted their lead in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings with five more runs and never looked back. Rafters shortstop Ben Ross goes 3-for-3 with three walks in his final three plate appearances of the game. Ross is batting well over .400 through more than 50 at-bats on the season, helping Wisconsin Rapids to their 16-2 mark.
The Mallards hit the road to finish up the first of three home-and-home series in the next week. First pitch in Wisconsin Rapids is scheduled for 6:35 PM tomorrow. Mallards' coverage can be found on Mixlr (MadisonMallards) at 6:30 PM.
