High Point Rockers News Release

HIGH POINT - In their first home game back since spending 10 days on the road, the High Point Rockers were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers after multiple lead changes and an extra inning 7-6.

Rockers first baseman Stephen Cardullo was the first to score thanks to a sacrifice fly by infielder Richie Shaffer. Shaffer would bring home two more runners in the bottom of the fifth with a two RBI double.

Designated hitter Myles Schroder was another big player in the Rockers' offense, scoring once in the first inning thanks to a Hector Gomez single. Schroder would come back to hit a solo home run, starting the teams fifth inning comeback.

In his first home game back since a minor injury, second baseman Tyler Ladendorf went one for two with a single RBI in the second inning. Ladendorf and Cardullo teamed up for a double play in the top of the sixth to end the inning.

Right handed pitcher Joe Van Meter started for High Point and recorded four strikeouts before getting pulled in the top of the 6th. Four more pitchers were called in to relieve him before the game's closer Alberto Baldonado checked in during the top of the ninth.

Baldonado had two strikeouts in the ninth and tenth inning before giving up the game winning run late in the tenth.

Third baseman Hector Gomez did not have the most spectacular showing on offense, but his two RBIs thanks to a first inning single and fifth inning groundout kept the Rockers lead alive multiple times.

The second game of the Rockers' four game series with Lancaster will continue July 2nd at 6:30pm. To purchase your tickets, visit www.highpointrockers.com or call (336)888-1000.
