
Rockers Battle Back vs. Lexington But Fall 10-6

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The High Point Rockers fell behind 7-0 at Lexington on Friday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark before rallying for six unanswered runs. The Legends, however, tacked on another three runs in the eighth inning and took the first game of the series by a final of 10-6.
Trailing 1-0, the Rockers gave up six runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Legends used six hits, including four doubles, to tag High Point starter Bryce Hensley for all six runs and a 7-0 lead.
The Rockers began their comeback with four runs in the top of sixth that started when Jerry Downs was hit by a pitch. Jared Mitchell followed with a double putting Downs at third. Randy Norris then singled to right plating Downs and moving Mitchell to third. Stuart Levy delivered a run with a double to cut the lead to 7-3. Giovanny Alfonzo followed with a two-run double to cut the deficit to 7-5 as Norris and Levy each scored.
Cesar Trejo led off the top of the seventh with a pinch-hit solo homer to pull the Rockers to within one run at 7-6.
Lexington's Cole Sturgeon hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth off reliever Cooper Casad to put the Legends up 9-6. D.J. Peterson added a solo blast later in the inning for a 10-6 Lexington advantage.
Hensley went five innings and allowed 11 hits and seven runs and took the loss as his record fell to 1-2. Ryan Chaffee pitched a scoreless sixth and newcomer John Hayes, just signed on Friday, threw a three up, three down inning in the seventh.
Another newcomer, infielder Tyler Patane, pinch-hit in the eighth inning and collected his first professional base hit with a single in the eighth inning.
James McOwen, Norris, Levy and Alfonzo all had two hits for the Rockers who pounded out 14 hits on the night.
The Rockers and Legends will continue their three-game series on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The final game of the series is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. on Sunday.
NOTES
The Rockers made a number of transactions on Friday. Infielder Edwin Arroyo was placed on the restricted list. Arroyo will be working towards making the Puerto Rico Olympic baseball team over the next couple of weeks.
High Point added infielder Tyler Patane and righthanded pitcher John Hayes to the roster.
