Rochester Red Wings News Release
Gwinnett Braves (28-42) @ Rochester Red Wings (33-36)
Frontier Field - Rochester, NY - 1:05 p.m.
LHP Sean Gilmartin (3-6, 5.40) vs. RHP Cole De Vries (1-2, 10.48)
TODAY'S GAME: After an exhilarating 5-run 9th inning Saturday night, capped by Dan Rohlfing's two-out, two-run, walk-off base hit that sent the Red Wings to a 6-5 comeback win in front of the 11,475 fans, Rochester will seek the four-game sweep of Gwinnett on Father's Day at Frontier Field... The Red Wings have now won 13 of their last 19 affairs to move within three games of the .500 mark for the first time since April 11 (2-5)... The Wing have also moved within 5.0 games of the wild-card leading Norfolk Tides and 7.0 games of division-leading Pawtucket... Meanwhile, Gwinnett, Atlanta's top affiliate, has dropped to 4-10 in the month of June but are still just 16-17 in their last 33 games since a season-high 14-game losing streak 4/27-5/11... Next, the Wings play a 3-game, 2-day series in Scranton/WB beginning with a DH on Monday.
WITH A WIN TODAY, THE WINGS...:
-Will tie a season-high with their fourth four-game winning streak this season and third in the last 20 games.
-The Wings will also tie a season-high with their 4th four-game home winning streak.
-Will sweep the Braves and finish 5-3 on this 8-game homestand
BROOMING THE BRAVES?: With a win on Sunday, the Wings will have their second four-game series sweep of the season (LHV, May 27-30) and first sweep against the Gwinnett Braves in their franchise history (2009- ). The last four-game sweep over the Atlanta Braves Triple-A affiliate was in 2006 (also in Rochester)... In fact, 2006 was the last time the Wings swept at least two, four-game series at home in the same season. That year they swept three series at Frontier Field (COL, DUR & RIC). Prior to this year, the Wings had not fared well against Gwinnett going just 13-19 vs the Braves since they moved from Richmond to Gwinnett in 2009. Last season, it was the Braves who took the season series, 5-3, from the Red Wings. This is the first season series win over the Braves Triple-A affiliate since the 2006 season (6-2).
-The Wings series win (3-1) in Gwinnett last week was the first time since 1995 that the Red Wings won a road series against Atlanta's Triple-A affiliate
WALK THIS WAY, PT. 2: The Red Wings won in walk-off fashion Saturday night for the second time in 2013 and for the first time since Ray Olmedo delivered a 2-run single in the bottom of the 9th on May 16 to beat Durham at Frontier Field... Dan Rohlfing was the hero on Saturday delivering the two-out, two-strike, two-run single off Kameron Loe to send the Wings to the 6-5 win. It was just the third time this season the Wings came back to win a game when they were trailing in the 7th inning or later and the five-run comeback tied a season-high as the Wings also overcame a 5-0 deficit after four inning on April 24 at Syracuse. It was just the third time since the beginning of 2012 that the Wings overcame a 5-run deficit to win.
AMONG BASEBALL'S BEST: 1B/OF Chris Colabello went 1-for-4 with two RBI including a two-run single in the 9th inning last night... Since being optioned back to Rochester on Monday, Colabello is 10-for-20 with 2 doubles, a homer, 3 runs and 8 RBI in 5 games. Not only has he collected a hit in 30 of his last 32 games, Colabello has now picked up an RBI in 14 of his last 16 games with the Red Wings... His .367 average is second-best in the game, trailing only Corey Dickerson of Colorado Springs (AAA; Rockies) who is batting .376 on the year... Colabello's batting 20 points higher than anyone else in the IL, his .648 SLG% is 43 points better than his closest competitor in the league and his 1.077 OPS is 79 points higher than the next best mark.
-Through two weeks of fan voting, Colabello is the top vote-getter among all IL position players.
-Colabello is riding a 16-game home hitting streak over which he's batting .468 (29-62) with 4 HR and 19 RBI.
-Colabello has a hit in 30 of his last 32 games with the Wings and has reached base in 22 straight games with Rochester.
ROHLFING ROLLING: Dan Rohlfing has made the transition from New Britain (AA) to Rochester look easy as the 24-year-old is now hitting .392 (20-for-51) in his first 15 Triple-A games after a 2-for-4 night on Saturday that included his first-ever walk-off hit. With three more RBI, Rohlfing now has 8 with the Wings and 27 combined between New Britain and Rochester. His career-high entering this season was just 34 in 2011 between Ft. Myers and New Britain... On Friday, Rohlfing tied a career-high with 4 hits and 7 total bases as he picked up a triple and a double... He is raking against lefties, especially, going 13-for-28 (.464) with 3 of his 4 XBH's against southpaws... Rohlfing became the 4th Wings player (Arcia, Colabello & Hanson) to homer in their Triple-A debut this season when he took LHV's Raul Valdes deep on May 29.
THE SPARK PLUG: With three more walks on Saturday, Antoan Richardson has a combined 53 base on balls in 64 games this season between ROC and NBR -- tied for the most walks in all of baseball... Richardson's .453 OBP this season between both levels ranks 6th best in the game... Despite playing in less than half of the Wings games so far this season, the Bahamas native has swiped a team-leading 11 bases, walked a team-high 31 times and scored 24 runs -- third on the team.
