Syracuse Mets News Release

The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, lost to the Toledo Mud Hens, 8-4, in 10 innings on Monday. Syracuse rallied to tie the game at four in the eighth inning, but a Ben Guez grand slam in the 10th inning was the difference.

The game went into extra innings, but in the 10th inning, Toledo broke it open. Syracuse reliever Erik Davis loaded the bases with three walks, with the third bringing Guez to the plate with two outs. The Toledo right fielder knocked a 1-0 pitch over the right-field wall to give the Mud Hens an 8-4 lead that would count for the game's final score.

Syracuse got on the board in the first inning. With runners on the corners and two outs, Will Rhymes hit a single to right field to drive in Eury Perez and give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.

But Toledo came back in the third inning. Kevin Russo led off the frame with a double. Argenis Diaz followed with a double of his own to score Russo and tie the game at one. One batter later, Avisail Garcia doubled to right field, Diaz scored and the Mud Hens went up 2-1.

Toledo added two more runs in the sixth. With Ben Guez on first and two outs, Brad Davis hit a home run over the left-field wall to give the Mud Hens a 4-1 lead.

Syracuse rallied in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded, Chris Rahl pinch-hit for Mike Costanzo and reached base on a fielder's choice by Diaz at second base. Corey Brown scored on the play and the Chiefs cut the deficit to two. The next batter, Zach Walters, doubled to right field to score Tyler Moore and Rahl and tie the game at four.

Next for Syracuse is an eight-game road trip starting Monday at 7:15 against Charlotte. Right-hander Ryan Tatusko takes the hill for the Chiefs, while right-hander Andre Rienzo goes for the Knights.
