TODAY'S GAME: The Red Wings and Knights (White Sox) play game 3 of their 4-game set Saturday night (7:05 p.m.) after Charlotte evened the series on Friday with a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over Rochester... The Wings have now dropped 10 of their last 15 games to fall back to a season-worse 10 games under .500. Rochester is currently in last place in the IL North -- 9.0 GB of division-leading Pawtucket... Meanwhile, Charlotte is 12-10 in the month of May after going just 7-20 in April. The Knights sit in a tie for 3rd place in the IL South but are 12.5 GB of Norfolk.

WITH A WIN TONIGHT, THE WINGS...:

-Will avoid falling to a season-worse 11 games under .500... The Wings haven't been more than 10 games under since the final day of the 2011 season (53-91).

-Will win their 10th game in the month of May -- matching their April win total... Last year, Rochester went 13-17 in May

MORE ABOUT LAST NIGHT...:

-The Wings lost their 7th game of the season (13-7) when leading after 5 innings... Last year, ROC was 48-4 when leading after 5

-ROC played their quickest 9-inn game of the year at 2-hours and 20 minutes -- 1 minute shorter than the 4/27 game vs BUF

-Wings starter Pedro Hernandez turned in a "quality start" in his first outing with the Wings this season

'ODD' SEASON: Tonight's Red Wings starter Kyle Gibson has been brilliant this season... in his odd numbered starts (1, 3, 5, 7 & 9). In those 5 starts he is 3-1 and has posted a 0.50 ERA (2 ER/35.2 IP) including 2 complete-game shutouts. In his even numbered starts (2, 4, 6, & 8), Gibson is 0-4 with a 9.00 ERA (17 ER/17.0 IP)... Today, Gibby will hope to buck the trend in his 10th start of the season. Gibson has tossed 2 CG-SHO in his last 3 GS -- including one in his last start Sunday @ LHV (9ip, 3h, 8 k) when he took a no-hitter into the 8th inning.

-The last Red Wings pitcher before Gibson with 2 CG-SHO in the same season was RHP Nick Blackburn in 2007... the last Wings pitcher with 3 CG-SHO's in one season was LHP Rick Krivda in 1997.

-The Wings are still the only team in the IL to have a pitcher toss a CG-SHO and the Wings have 3 (Walters with the other).

-Prior to this season, the Wings had thrown just 7 CG-SHO's in the last 5 years (2008-12) w/ no more than 2 in any year.

MORE MOVES: Highly-touted OF prospect Oswaldo Arcia was optioned back to Rochester on Friday... Saturday, the Twins made it official and selected the contract of RHP P.J. Walters (who will start for the Twins vs Detroit tonight) and announced that Red Wings OF Joe Benson was claimed off waivers by the Texas Rangers... Arcia hit .255 (25-for-98) with 4 home runs and 14 RBI in 30 games with Minnesota. Prior to joining the Twins, the 22-year-old batted .393 with 3 HR and 8 RBI in 10 games with the Wings... He was optioned after going 3-for-29 in his last 11 games... Walters departs after turning in 6 straight quality starts as he went 4-0 with a 2.08 ERA over that span... Benson was hitting just .192 with a homer and 9 RBI in 42 games with Rochester this season... Last year, the OF prospect hit .179 in 28 games with the Wings before being demoted to New Britain.

PROVIDING RELIEF: The newest member of the Red Wings bullpen, LHP Aaron Thompson, tossed 3 perfect innings behind starter Andrew Albers on Thursday to earn his first career Triple-A save. In 2 games with the Wings so far since being promoted from New Britain last Saturday, Thompson has allowed just one hit (1-for-15) in 5 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts and no walks... Thompson, a 2005 1st round pick of the Marlins, has not allowed a run in his last 17.1-innings between New Britain and Rochester... In all he has allowed just 1 run in 19.2 innings this season and has converted all 4 of his save opportunities.

CLUBBIN' CLETE: Wings OF Clete Thomas hit his 7th home run of the season in the 3rd inning Friday night -- a solo blast off the top of the right field billboards...His 7th homer of the year came in just his 87th at-bat of the season -- he's on pace to hit 21 long balls this season after hitting a career-high 13 home runs in 421 at-bats last season... It was Thomas' first home run since May 4 at Columbus and first at Frontier Field since April 30 -- Thomas missed two weeks (May 8-21) with a quad injury.

RISP IMPROVING: The Wings are hitting .333 (27-for-81) with RISP over the last 9 G to raise their season average from a league-worst .194 on May 14 to .220 entering play today -- 13th in the IL... SS Doug Bernier leads the team with 15 hits w/ RISP ( 15-for-46; .326) and is 2nd with 15 RBI (Colabello, 22)... OF Clete Thomas leads the team with a .455 average (10-for-22) w/ RISP.

YOU FIRST?: The Red Wings jumped out to the 2-0 lead Friday but were unable to hang on as they are now just 12-14 this season in games they score the first run . Rochester is the only team in the IL this season with a losing record after scoring first. Last season, the Wings went 47-19 when grabbing the lead first.
