Columbus Clippers News Release
In front of the largest crowd of the season (11,448) on Star Wars night, Columbus could not muster enough offense as they fell to Syracuse 2-1 in ten innings at Huntington Park.
After four innings of shutout baseball, Columbus would finally crack the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth. With Ezequiel Carrera standing on first, Tim Fedroff lined a single into right field. Carrera sped around second and was waved around third. Chris Rahl, Syracuse's right fielder threw back to the infield but his throw was nowhere near home as Carrera crossed the plate safely to give the Clippers a 1-0 lead.
The Chiefs would retaliate with a Rahl solo homer in the top of the eighth. The game would remained tied at 1-1 until the top of the tenth when Eury Perez drove home a run with an RBI single down the right field line.
Columbus would try to rally in the bottom half of the frame. Carrera would walk to begin the frame, but Fedroof grounded into a 4-6-3 double play. Chun Chen the struck out swinging to end the game. Jeremy Accardo (W, 2-0) got the win for Syracuse. Preston Guilemt (L, 2-3) was hit with the loss for the Clippers. Eric Davis (S, 7) tallied another save for the Chiefs.
Syracuse and Columbus will go their separate ways after playing one more game on Sunday night. The Clippers will send right-hander Joe Martinez (1-2, 4.97) to the mound. The Chiefs will go with righty Chris Young (1-2, 7.26). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM.
