GAME #48 - ROAD GAME #26 - 7:05 P.M.

ROCHESTER RED WINGS (20-27) at GWINNETT BRAVES (28-20)

LHP LUKE FRENCH (0-1, 5.91) vs. RHP TODD REDMOND (4-3, 2.63)

GEORGIA ON MY MIND: The Rochester Red Wings tonight play the 3rd game of their 4-game series at Gwinnett (Braves), their lone regular-season visit to Lawrenceville. Rochester has split the first 2 games of the games of the series, winning the opener Thursday 3-1 before falling 13-8 yesterday at Coolray. After 2 more games with the Gwinnett, it's off to Charlotte (White Sox) for a 4-game series Monday-Thursday. The Red Wings then return to Frontier Field on Friday for an 8-game homestand with Columbus (Indians) and Norfolk (Orioles).

a The Red Wings are in the midst of playing 40 consecutive games against teams outside of the International League North Division, a stretch that began May 15 vs. Louisville (Reds). The Wings are 6-4 thus far in that span. Rochester's first 37 contests were against IL North Division rivals and they will return to IL North play June 26 at Lehigh Valley (Phillies).

ROSTER NEWS: The Red Wings today reinstated right-handed pitcher Carlos Gutierrez from the 7-Day Disabled List. The reliever missed the last 34 games with a strained right shoulder labrum after being placed on the DL April 18. He went 1-1 with a 9.00 ERA (4 ER/4.0 IP) in 3 games before the injury. Gutierrez last pitched April 13 vs. Pawtucket (Red Sox), allowing a 3-run homer to Will Middlebrooks before exiting the game.

a The Red Wings' 25-man roster now stands at 25.

a The Red Wings had 6 players on the Disabled List through April 30. Since the start of May, 4 of the 6 have returned to action, including outfielder Rene Tosoni, who has since been transferred to Double-A New Britain, and infielders Tsuyoshi Nishioka and Michael Hollimon. Outfielder Brian Dinkelman and righthander Samuel Deduno remain on the DL.

CALLING ALL STARS: Online voting for the 2012 Triple-A All-Star Game is underway. The game, featuring the International League and the Pacific Coast League, will be played at Buffalo's Coca-Cola Field on July 11. Fans can vote by visiting RedWingsBaseball.com and clicking on the "Triple-A All-Star Game voting underway" link under "Headlines" on the home page.

a Leading Red Wings candidates include righthander Anthony Slama, owner of 8 saves, a 0.44 ERA, and a 15.0 consecutive scoreless innings streak; and outfielder Matt Carson, who leads Rochester with a .299 average, 46 hits, 15 extra-base hits, 12 doubles, 12 RBI, 65 total bases, and 21 runs scored. Righthander Jeff Manship, not to go unnoticed, leads current Red Wings with 4 wins and will go for No. 5 tomorrow at Gwinnett.

INFINITE THREES: The Red Wings tonight reach the one-third point of the season, playing their 48th game of the 144-game schedule. At 20-27, Rochester is one game better than it was a year ago. The 2011 Wings lost their 48th game to fall to 19-29 at the one-third mark.

a The Red Wings have lost 2 of their last 3, but are still 6-4 in their last 10 games. They have played .500 baseball beginning May 3, going 11-11 in that time.

a Rochester is 11-13 in May and are somewhat within reach of their first winning calendar month since August 2009, when they went 17-15. Rochester would need to go 5-1 the rest of the way this month to accomplish the feat.

ROAD TEST: Since sweeping a 2-game series at Syracuse (Nationals) to open the season, the Red Wings have won just 2 games away from Frontier Field in 15 tries. Both victories in the last 15 true road games have come with Liam Hendriks as the starting pitcher. He is scheduled to pitch Tuesday at Charlotte.

OH, DEAR: The Red Wings yesterday allowed a season-high 13 runs, their most since an 18-3 drubbing vs. Durham (Rays) July 21, 2011. Rochester had allowed just 14 runs in their previous 6 games. Wings relievers yielded 8 runs (7 earned) in 5.0 innings of work after entering the game with a consecutive scoreless innings streak of 15.1.

a Rochester pitchers last night allowed a season-high 3 home runs for the 2nd time. They also surrendered a troika of homers April 8 vs. Buffalo (Mets).

a The 5-run lead was the largest relinquished by the Red Wings this season. Their 5-run first inning accounted for their highest offensive output in the first since August 30, 2011, when they plated 5 vs. Pawtucket en route to an 8-6 win.

GOING FOR A RUN: The Red Wings last night scored more than 5 runs for just the 5th time. Three of the 5 occasions have come against Gwinnett, which owns the 4th-best ERA in the league at 3.33. Rochester ranks last in the IL with 152 runs scored, but is closing the gap on Lehigh Valley, which has scored 166.

CUP O' JOE: Rochester 's Mr. Baseball, Joe Altobelli, today celebrates his 80th birthday. The Detroit native played for the Red Wings for 4 seasons from 1963-66, managed the club for 6 seasons from 1971-76, and won 2 Governors' Cup titles in 1971 and 1974. He also spent time as the club's general manager (1991-93) and as a radio broadcaster (1998-2008). Altobelli was part of the inaugural class of the Rochester Red Wings Hall of Fame in 1989. The Wings will celebrate his birthday at the June 2 game vs. Columbus at Frontier Field.

BASEBALL MONTH IN ROCHESTER: The Red Wings and Monroe County have proclaimed May as "Baseball Month in Rochester." Frontier Field is hosting games on 26 of the 31 days in the month, as the Empire State Yankees share the downtown ballpark with the Red Wings. While there is no game today in Rochester, here are the details of Spikes' appearance and the month-long raffle:

a Spikes appearance: Abbott's Frozen Custard (Charlotte)

a The BMIR raffle has raised $7,217 thus far. There are 4 raffles to go in the month, and all money will go to the 26 not-for-profit organizations being hosted in a complimentary suite during BMIR.
