GOING BRICKYARD: The Rochester Red Wings tonight begin a 9-day, 8-game roadtrip with the first of 4 against Indianapolis (Pirates). Following this 4-game set at Victory Field, the Wings will take Wednesday off and then play a 4-game series at Louisville (Reds). This marks Rochester's longest roadtrip of the season. It has 4 other 8-game trips, but all are 8 days long.
a The Red Wings return home June 18 for an 8-game stay with a pair of 4-game series vs. Durham (Rays) and Charlotte (White Sox).
BETTER BASEBALL: The Red Wings have won 3 in a row, 5 of their last 6, 6 of their last 8, and 8 of their last 11. The Wings are 14-10 in their last 24 games beginning May 15 and are 19-17 beginning May 3.
a Rochester's 14-10 record beginning May 15 is 4th best in the International League in that time. The list:
Rank Team Record Winning %
1. Charlotte 17-6 .739
2. Empire State 17-9 .654
3. Pawtucket 14-9 .609
4. Rochester 14-10 .583
5. Lehigh Valley 13-10 .565
a With a victory tonight, the Wings would match their season-best winning streak of 4 games from May 3-5.
JUNE SWOON: The Red Wings are 6-2 in June for their best 8-game start to a calendar month since going 6-2 in August 2008. Oddly, the Red Wings have started each calendar month in 2012 with a winning record through their first 8 games, but in the previous 2 have went on to finish with a sub-.500 record:
Month Start Finish Overall
April 5-3 4-11 9-14
May 5-3 8-14 13-17
June 6-2 ??? ???
a The Wings last weekend vs. Columbus began a stretch of playing 16 of 20 games through June 21 against teams with a current losing record. The lone exception is this 4-game series at Indianapolis. Following this stretch, the Wings will play 18 straight games leading into the All-Star break against teams with a current winning record, including 5 against IL North Division-leading Pawtucket July 2-6.
ON THE FRONTIER: The Red Wings yesterday wrapped up a 6-2 homestand with a 9-6 win vs. Norfolk (Orioles). At 6-2, Rochester posted its best record in a homestand longer than 4 games since going 6-2 August 10-16, 2010 vs. Gwinnett (3-1) and Lehigh Valley (3-1).
a The Wings are 22-16 along Morrie Silver Way overall, including an 18-12 mark as the home team. The Wings, meanwhile, are just 6-17 in true road games. Here's a breakdown of they're faring at Frontier and on the road, with the biggest difference on the ERA front:
