
Rochester Knighthawks Begin Title Defense On The Road

(Rochester, NY)... For only the second time in franchise history, the Rochester Knighthawks will enter the season as the defending National Lacrosse League champions. Rochester begins its title defense on Friday, January 4th in Minnesota against the rival Minnesota Swarm.
Rochester captured the 2007 NLL Champion?s Cup on May 12th, defeating the Arizona Sting 13-11 at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona. The win was the team?s 15th straight and capped a 17-2 season. The championship was the second in the franchise?s history. The Knighthawks last won the title in 1997.
The Knighthawks? 14th season begins with two road games as the team remains on the road for its second straight game, as it travels to Buffalo on Friday, January 11th. The game is a rematch of last year?s East Division Finals. The following night, the Knighthawks will raise their championship banner prior to hosting the Chicago Shamrox at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial.
The Knighthawks will fly to Philadelphia to take on the Wings on Friday, January 18th, which will be Rochester?s third road game in three weeks. After the early road trips, Rochester returns home for a four-game homestand, which starts with a championship rematch against the Arizona Sting on Saturday, January 26th. The next week, the Knighthawks host the Toronto Rock on Saturday, February 9th. The home schedule concludes with games against New York (February 16) and Buffalo (February 23).
The longest road trip of the season begins with the Knighthawks visiting the Air Canada Centre on Saturday, March 1st to battle Toronto. The three-game road trek also takes Rochester on its first ever trips to Boston and Edmonton. Rochester plays expansion Boston on Saturday, March 8th at TD Banknorth Garden. The next week, the K-Hawks journey west to take on former Head Coach Paul Day and the Edmonton Rush on Saturday, March 15th at the Rexall Place. The next day is the NLL All-Star Game in Edmonton.
Another game of interest is the Knighthawks? season-ending matchup against Casey Powell and the New York Titans at 7:30 p.m. The game will be Rochester?s first trip to Madison Square Garden.
