Portland Lumberjax News Release
PORTLAND, September, 17, 2007 - It's official! The Portland LumberJax have released the 2008 National Lacrosse League schedule today. The '08 schedule is highlighted by a four-game home stretch that keeps the team at the Rose Garden for a full month. This will be the NLL's 22nd season.
The 2008 campaign actually begins in 2007. The Jax travel to Colorado on Saturday, December 29 to meet the defending Western Conference Champions at 6 p.m. PST at the Pepsi Center. The Jax and Mammoth have met five times in the past, with the Jax winning the first two and the Mammoth taking the last three. This is the first of three meetings the teams will have this season.
The real fun begins on Friday, January 4 when the Jax hold their home opener against the Mammoth at 7:30 p.m. at the Rose Garden. A raucous arena is expected as the Jax and Mammoth lock sticks.
Lumberjacks usually roam the woods, decked out in plaid clothing. There is a rumor floating around that the Jax will unveil their first ever third jersey during the home opener. Could a plaid themed jersey be in the works?
The Jax begin a two-game road trip, traveling to New York to meet the Titans on January 12 at 9:30 a.m. and then playing the Arizona Sting on Friday, January 18 at 6:30 p.m. The Jax will be meeting the Titans for the first time in team history.
The Sting have been a constant thorn in the Jax side from day one. Portland is 1-4 all-time against the Sting and it was Arizona who ended the Jax 2006 playoff run prematurely.
On Thursday, January 24, the Jax return home to meet the Sting at 7:30 p.m. at the Rose Garden. Two days later, the Jax will be in Boston to meet the new Boston franchise at 4:30 p.m.
On Sunday, February 17 at 3 p.m., the Jax begin their longest home-stand of the season by hosting the San Jose Stealth. The Jax also play home on Friday, February 22 against Colorado at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 1 against the Edmonton Rush at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 8 against the Philadelphia Wings at 7:30 p.m.
The four-game home stretch will keep the Jax at the Rose Garden from January 24-March 8.
After the March 16 All-Star game at Edmonton, the Jax travel to San Jose to meet the Stealth on Saturday, March 22 at 12 p.m. The road swing continues on Saturday, March 29 in Edmonton as the Jax and Rush collide at 6:30 p.m.
The final home-stand of the season begins on Saturday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rose Garden as the Jax welcome their regular nemesis, Arizona. On Friday, April 11, the Jax regular season home finale features the Calgary Roughnecks at 7:30 p.m.
The Jax finish the regular season by playing at Calgary on Saturday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m. and then traveling to San Jose on Friday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m.
The monthly breakdown for the Jax season is as follows: one game in December (one road), five games in January (two home, three away), two games in February (two home), four games in March (two home, two away) and four games to end the regular season in April (two home, two away).
The 2008 NLL season begins on December 27, 2007 when the Chicago Shamrox meet New York at 8 p.m. EST in the first of 112 regular season NLL games.
Jax season tickets for the 2008 season start as low as $90. Nine game ticket packages include eight regular-season home games and a home playoff game. For more information or to reserve your seats call the Jax ticket office at (503)797-9739.
