DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth will begin the 2008 National Lacrosse League season with consecutive games against the Portland LumberJax before facing a slew of other West Division rivals.

After opening with two games against Portland the Mammoth plays four of its next five games at home against western opponents, including the Arizona Sting, San Jose Stealth, Edmonton Rush and Calgary Roughnecks.

"We really like our schedule this season," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "Five of our first seven games are at home and against division opponents, so it gives us a great chance for a strong start toward defending our West Division title. Our fans will benefit from having all but two of our home games on Saturday or Friday nights, and we hope to benefit from their continued tremendous support."

Other highlights of the Mammoth schedule include a home game against the East Division's Chicago Shamrox on April 3 followed by a trip east to face the Minnesota Swarm. The schedule then concludes with a home-and-home series against Edmonton on the regular season's final weekend.

The 2008 NLL All-Star Game will be played on Sunday, March 16 at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta.

Each of the NLL's 14 teams will play 16 regular-season games, eight home and eight away, over 17 weekends. The regular season concludes on Saturday, April 19, with the Champion's Cup Playoffs beginning the next weekend.

The Mammoth won the West Division regular season title last season and qualified for the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year. The team led the league in attendance for the third time, averaging 16,794 fans per home game.
