Kalamazoo, Mich.- A solid defensive effort helped propel the Rockford IceHogs to a 1-0 win over the Kalamazoo Wings on Sunday evening at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan. IceHogs goalie Michel Robinson did his part, stopping 21 Wings shots to pick up his third shutout of the season.

The only goal of the game came while Rockford skated on a power play late in the third period. Defenseman Rod Aldoff fired a shot wide of the Kalamazoo goal and the rebound off the back dasherboards deflected in front right to center Olivier Proulx. Proulx didn't waste any time burying his 14 goal of the season.

The IceHogs out shot the Wings 23-21, and Kalamazoo goalie Joel Martin made 22 saves, but was saddled with the loss. The win for Rockford was the team's first regulation victory in Kalamazoo since March 11, 2001, when they topped the Wings 3-1.

Special teams were the difference in the game as the IceHogs finished 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Wings were 0-for-4. The IceHogs converted their only power play opportunity in the third period to pick up the games only goal.

Next Home Game: Wednesday, December 29 vs. Fort Wayne Komets. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Hogs and Komets match-up in a battle for first place in the Western Division. Wednesday means another Pig Out with the IceHogs and WXRX 104.9 FM. Fans can purchase a pulled pork sandwich and a beer for only $5.
