Robinson Named To Postseason All-Star Team

September 2, 2009 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

Wilmington, DE- Despite owning more wins than any other team in the circuit during 2009, the Wilmington Blue Rocks placed only one player on the postseason Carolina League All-Star team. Wilmington center fielder Derrick Robinson was named an outfielder on the squad that was announced by the League Office on Wednesday night.

The 21-year-old Gainesville, FL native entered play on Wednesday with a .245 average and five home runs. But the center fielder caught fire during the season's second half.

In August, Robinson batted .311 with all five of his dingers, and was named Wilmington's team Player of the Month. He also has driven in 47 runs, good for second on the team. That comes despite the fact that Robinson has batted leadoff in every game he has played in during 2009.

Robinson's best asset is his speed however. The center fielder covers tons of ground in center field, and ranks third in all of Minor League Baseball with 69 steals. Robinson is just one theft shy of becoming only the 14th player in Carolina League history to reach 70 stolen bases in a season. He is the catalyst of a unit that leads all of Minor League Baseball with 199 steals.

It marked the second consecutive season that Wilmington had only one player honored. This year's team was compiled courtesy of a vote by Carolina League managers, general managers and media. Frederick led all teams with four players selected.
