Playoff Picture - After a K-Tribe win and a Red Sox double header split, Kinston and Salem are now tied for the final playoff spot in the Carolina League Southern Division with both teams having six games to play. Myrtle Beach will be eliminated from the race tonight with a loss or Kinston or Salem winning. . Ole, Ole, Ole - Ole Sheldon did it all for the K-Tribe last night, driving in all five runs, while racking up two of Kinston's three hits. Sheldon has now racked up eleven RBI over the last three games thanks to a two homer, 5 rbi night on Saturday. Sheldon has a seven game hit streak going, with three straight multi-hit games. He has a six game RBI streak going and a five game run streak.
Lucky Number Three - Kinston managed just three hits last night, tied for their second lowest hit total (five three hit games, one two hit game) in a game this season. It is the only time they have won a game when managing three or less hits this season.
An August to Remember - Kinston vaulted back into the playoff race with a 19-9 record, the second best in the CL in August. The K-Tribe also had the second best team batting average (.274) and ERA (3.07). Paolo Espino had the best ERA in the CL for the month with a 0.87 mark and was fifth in strikeouts (29), Russell Young was sixth with a 2.25 ERA. Tim Fedroff had the second best batting average in the CL for the month with a .343 average. Doug Pickens was close behind at fourth in the league with a .337 mark. Ole Sheldon was third in the CL with 23 RBI for the month.
