Lynchburg plated a run in the first inning for the second straight night thanks to a lead-off double by Chase d'Arnaud and a two-run home run by Jordy Mercer.
In the third inning the Hillcats tacked on a run to their lead with another RBI from Mercer, as he singled home d'Arnaud to make it 3-0.
An inning later another run came home for the Cats with a two-out RBI single by Jose De Los Santos to push the advantage to 4-0.
In the fifth innings Potomac would score their first two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and chase starter Justin Wilson from the game. Michael Martinez doubled home the first run and Jesus Valdez brought in a run as well with a groundout to cut the lead to two at 4-2.

The lead would hold up though as Matt McSwain, filling in for the departed R.J. Rodriguez, would pitch a scoreless ninth inning for the Hillcats to earn the save and preserve the win.
The win went to Noah Krol (1-0) for Lynchburg (26-39, 71-63), who made his Advanced-A and Hillcats debut and tossed two scoreless frames of relief. The save for McSwain (1) was his second with the Hillcats and his first since his Cats debut last season. The loss went to starter Will Atwood (8-8) for Potomac (39-26, 76-56) who fell three games back of first place in the Northern Division.
