K-Tribe Blows Out Keys
September 2, 2009 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release
The Kinston Indians scored early and often against the Frederick Keys on Wednesday night. The K-Tribe scored 14 runs on 17 hits, on the way to a 14-3 win.
Kinston jumped all over Frederick RHP Sean Gleason early and often. In the first, Indians' DH Tim Fedroff reached on an infield hit. 2B Cord Phels walked. 1B Ole Sheldon knocked them both in with a two-run double.
The Keys, however, tied the game in the third. LF Kyle Hudson and SS Greg Miclat worked back-to-back walks. Then, big-league rehabber CF Lou Montanez singled. RF Robbie Widlansky hit a hard ground ball up the middle that looked like it would be a two-run single. Kinston SS Ron Rivas made a diving stop, however, and flipped to second to get a force. A run scored, making it 2-1. With runners on the corners, 1B Joe Mahoney lifted a sac fly to right, tying the game at two.
The game got out of hand after the third. The Indians would score 12 runs (two in the fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth, and four in the ninth) on 13 hits, and eventually win 14-3.
Montanez ended up going 2-4 for the Keys with an RBI. He's expected to play once again for the Keys on Thursday night.
RHP Jonathan Holt (4-5) got the win after pitching two thirds of an inning of relief. Gleason (4-8) took the loss. He surrendered six runs, five earned, in just 4.2 innings.
The Keys close out their 2009 home schedule on Thursday night at Harry Grove Stadium. First pitch against the Kinston Indians is scheduled for 7:00 PM. For ticket info, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
