New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - On a night when the team's pitchers allowed a franchise record 24 hits, Clint Robinson's seventh home run of the season stood as the lone bright spot in the Fisher Cats 16-2 loss to the Erie SeaWolves (36-30) on Saturday night. New Hampshire (32-36) has now lost back-to-back games to the Erie heading into the finale on Sunday afternoon.
Erie gave the Fisher Cats a 1-2 knock-out punch in the top of the first inning. With two outs, Daniel Fields hit a line drive that deflected off starting pitcher Sean Nolin's (L; 3-2) throwing elbow for a base hit. Nolin was forced to leave the game due to the come-backer, and Erie plated three runs against reliever Matt Wright on an RBI double and a two-run homer by James McCann.
The SeaWolves continued to pad their lead with three more runs in the second to make it 6-0. After Robinson homered in the bottom of the second to cut into the lead, Erie picked up four more in the third, highlighted by a homer from James Robbins, to extend the advantage to 10-1.
The onslaught continued as Erie added three more runs in the fourth against Wright. He would leave after allowing 12 runs on 13 hits, both career highs and new franchise records for a relief pitcher. Brian Van Kirk drove home the Fisher Cats second run in the fourth inning before Erie greeted Shawn Griffith with three more to make it 16-2 in the fifth.
When all was said and done, the SeaWolves collected 16 runs on 22 hits, the most hits ever allowed by a Fisher Cats team in a single game. Erie finished the game with eight doubles, three home runs, and went 8-for-18 with runners in scoring position.
The Fisher Cats will not try and salvage the finale of the series and the homestand on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. for a Father's Day matinee. Before the game, families can play catch on the field with dad to celebrate Father's Day. The first 1,000 kids will receive a free baseball courtesy of Bank of New Hampshire, and after the game, all kids can run the bases presented by the Buyers Beware Program. Tickets are available at www.nhfishercats.com, at the Fisher Cats ticket office, and by calling (603) 641-2005.
The pitching match-up for the finale will feature Fisher Cats righty Marcus Stroman (2-1, 4.95) against Erie left-hander Ryan Robowski (0-0, 1.15). Radio coverage of the game begins at 1:15 p.m. with Tom Gauthier and Dick Lutsk on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
