Altoona Curve News Release

ABOUT LAST NIGHT...: Altoona welcomed outfielder Gregory Polanco with open arms and Casey Sadler (7-4) was tremendous in a, 8-4, doubling of the Trenton Thunder on Friday night. Polanco, who got off a plane a few hours earlier, started in centerfield and went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI in his Double-A debut. That effort would have been more than enough for Sadler, who dealt six scoreless innings en route to his seventh win of the season. It was his eighth quality start of the season and it was the second time this season that he dealt at least six scoreless innings. The Curve used a four-run fourth inning to jump on the board first and never looked back. Drew Maggi had the Curve's other multi-RBI game while Adalberto Santos and Alex Dickerson had the other multi-hit games.

CURVE/THUNDER SERIES: Trenton makes its second and final visit to Peoples Natural Gas Field for this three-game series over Father's Day weekend. Last time the Thunder were in town, the Curve took two-of-three during what was a pretty good stretch of baseball for the Curve. After this series the two teams have three games remaining in the season series with all three games scheduled to take place at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton (July 22-24).

FOR ALTOONA: Promoted to Altoona to start tonight's game for the Curve is RHP Nick Kingham, who would have been playing in tonight's Florida State League All-Star game in Dunedin had he not been promoted. The fourth- round pick out of Sierra Vista HS in Las Vegas back in 2010, Kingham was in his first season in High-A after spend- ing a full 2012 with Low-A West Virginia. He got off to a slow start, losing his first two decisions before going on to win six straight decisions and seven-straight team games overall from April 22 - May 24. In that span, Kingham set a new career-high in strikeouts with 13 on April 28 vs. Brevard County (in just six innings) and a new career-high in innings pitched with 7.2 frames on 6/2 vs. Daytona. The 13 punchouts were a new team high for the Maraud- ers franchise. Last time out, Kingham allowed one run on two hits in three innings at Lakeland in a game that was suspended due to rain. For more on Kingham, see page two.

FOR TRENTON: RHP Zach Nuding will face the Curve for a second time this season and will be making his 14th start of the season overall for the Thunder. Nuding allowed four runs on eight hits in four innings of work versus the Curve on May 14 here at Peoples Natural Gas Field while walking a season-high five batters. He's been on the short end of the stick seven times this season, bringing a record of 2-7 into today's game despite owning a very solid 3.28 ERA through 13 starts. He was 2-3 with a 3.66 ERA in six May starts and has allowed four runs in 11 innings across two starts so far this month. Following his 2012 season, Nuding was sent to the Arizona Fall League where he went 1-3 with a 5.82 ERA while pitching for the Scottsdale Scorpions (which was the same team that Pirates prospects were assigned to in the AFL in 2012). He was originally drafted 30th round of the 2010 draft out of Weatherford (Texas) College and was a non-roster invitee to Spring Training this season.

STRAIGHT OUT OF CUMPTON TO PITTSBURGH: 2013 Curve Opening Day starter Brandon Cumpton has been added to the Pittsburgh Pirates active roster and will make his Major League debut today as the Bucs take on the Dodgers. He'll be the fourth former Curve player to make his debut this season, joining Phil Irwin, Robbie Grossman and Gerrit Cole and the second this week (Cole debuted on Tuesday). Overall, he'll be the 105th player to make his MLB debut after playing in Curve, Pa.

STOLM SET TO HIT INDY: Curve SP Stolmy Pimentel has been promoted to Triple-A Indianapolis, the Pirates an- nounced earlier today. Pimentel started off the season in pristine form for the Curve, boasting an ERA of 0.30 after his first five starts. He stumbled a bit through May but rebounded in his first two starts of June. The San Cristobal, D.R. native was 2-0 this month before getting the bump to Triple-A and had allowed three earned runs in 13 innings. In his final start for the Curve, Pimentel matched a season and career-high with seven innings pitched on June 12 in New Britain.

RELOADING: CF Gregory Polanco made a nice statement in his Double-A debut on Friday, going 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI and a stolen base. Polanco was selected to the Florida State League mid-season All-Star team before being promoted to Altoona and was the fourth-best prospect in the system entering 2013 according to Baseball America. The Santo Domingo, D.R. native is coming off a banner year for Low-A West Virginia in 2012 where he was named the Topps South Atlantic League Player of the Year as well as the Pirates Organizational Minor League Player of the Year. He batted .325 in 116 games for the Power with 26 doubles, six triples, 16 home runs, 85 RBI, 84 runs and 40 steals. This year, Polanco was hitting .312 with 17 doubles, six homers and 30 RBI in 57 games with 24 steals.

YOU COMPLETE ME: RHP Stolmy Pimentel's complete game in Game 1 on Wednesday night was the second complete game this season thrown by a Curve pitcher and the third in his MiLB career. It was, however, the first seven-inning complete game of his career as his others were of a five-inning (rain-shortened) and six-inning (losing side of a seven-inning game) variety. His seven innings matched a career-high, something that the San Cristobal, D.R. native has done nine times in his career and three times this season.

REMEMBER ME?: Former Twins farmhand David Bromberg really took it to his old team on Wednesday night in the second game. The California native pitched in New Britain for parts of the 2010-12 seasons before sign- ing with the Pirates this offseason as a minor league free agent. His 12 strikeouts were a season high for Curve, surpassing the pair of 10 strikeout games by Jameson Taillon earlier this year. The 12 punchouts, however, are not a career high for Bromberg, who whiffed 13 for Low-A Beloit of the Midwest League on August 24, 2008. It's also the most strikeouts for a Curve pitcher in a single game since '05 and just behind the franchise mark set by Tom Gorzelanny on 9/9/05 vs. Akron in a playoff game (13).
