Trenton Thunder News Release

(Altoona, PA) - Altoona starter Nick Kingham combined with three relievers on a six-hit shutout in his Double-A debut to lead the Curve to a 4-0 blanking of the Trenton Thunder in the second of a three-game series Saturday night at People's Natural Gas Field.

Trenton stranded ten runners on base and was shutout for the third time in its last 12 games, as the Thunder fell below the .500 mark overall for the first time this season (33-34). The squad has now dropped four in a row and is just 2-10 in June.

Kingham, who was promoted before the game from Class-A Bradenton, allowed four hits in 5.2 innings of work. He struck out seven and walked two. The righty missed participating in Saturday's Florida State League All-Star game in order to pitch for Altoona.

Kenn Kasparek recorded the final out of the sixth when Reegie Corona was thrown out at home plate trying to score on a Jose Pirela single. Nate Baker pitched a scoreless seventh inning, while Ethan Hollingsworth was perfect in the eighth and ninth to finish the shutout.

Thunder starter Zach Nuding (2-8) allowed solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings, each coming on RBI groundouts to shortstop. Charlie Cutler and Carlos Paulino recorded consecutive RBI singles in the sixth to chase Nuding from the game after allowing four runs (three earned).

Jeremy Bleich and Tommy Kahnle combined to throw three scoreless innings of relief behind Nuding for Trenton. The Curve out-hit the Thunder 7-to-6 on the night.

The finale of the series will be played Sunday night as Altoona tries for the three-game sweep. Trenton right-hander Mikey O'Brien (4-1, 4.03) is expected to start against Curve ace right-hander Jameson Taillon (3-5, 3.11). First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm. Radio coverage on 91.3 FM (WTSR) and also streaming online begins at 6:15 pm.
