Oklahoma City Blazers News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League acquired veteran defenseman Peter Robertson from the Memphis RiverKings in exchange for future considerations, Blazers head coach Doug Sauter announced today. Robertson was then signed for the 2006-07 season.
Robertson, a 6-1, 210-pound native of Rothesay, New Brunswick, posted 51 points (7-44-51) in 64 games with the 'Kings last season. His 44 assists ranked him third in the league among all defensemen, while his 51 points put him sixth among rearguards. Both assist and point totals were career highs.
The 32-year old Robertson is entering his eighth season as a pro and fifth in Oklahoma City. Following his rookie season with the Macon Whoopee in 1999, he began a four-season stay with the Blazers. In that span, he played in 255 games as a Blazer, scoring 153 points (44-109-153) and serving 189 penalty minutes. He ranks third among defensemen in most offensive categories on the Blazers all-time list. He has played the majority of the last two seasons with Memphis.
"Robo is coming off of a career year with the RiverKings," said Sauter. "I believe he will be able to carry that momentum over to our club for this coming season. I will look to him to provide veteran leadership in the locker room, be solid defensively and help make our power play productive."
"I'm very pleased to be returning to Oklahoma City", said Robertson. "I enjoyed the early part of my career with the Blazers. I was disappointed when I was traded away, but I understand the nature of the business. To have a second chance to play to a first class organization in the town I consider home, is pleasing to me and my family. "
The addition of Robertson brings the number of players signed for the 06-07 season to six. He joins veterans Tyler Fleck and Marty Standish as well as defenseman Mike Burgoyne, forward Graham Dearle and goaltender Sean Connors.
The Blazers will open their historic 15th season at home Friday, October 20 at the Ford Center at 7:35 p.m. The remainder of the schedule will be announced in the coming weeks. Season tickets are now on sale for as low as $40 per month. Contact the Blazers office at 235-PUCK for information about this great offer.
NOTE: The Blazers will participate in the Ford Center All Access Tour 2006 this Saturday from 4 - 8 p.m. One-third of the ice will be set for a Blazers hockey game. Fans will be able to tour the Blazers locker room, sample food from the Ford Center's vendors and register to win great prizes. Admission is free.
