Broncos beat Coyotes 5-2

LAREDO, Texas - The Laredo Broncos got a strong pitching performance from right handed starter Daryl Roque as they beat the Edinburg Coyotes 5-2 on Thursday night at Veterans Field. Roque worked eight solid innings as the Broncos won their second straight and seventh out of their last 10 games. The Broncos finish their home stand at Veterans Field on Friday night against Edinburg with the final game of the three game series as they go for the sweep. The Broncos opened the bottom of the first with three straight hits off Coyotes starter RHP Neomar Flores. Laredo plated a run in the frame on second baseman Edwin Maldonado's RBI single which scored left fielder Mike Serrata.

In the bottom of the third centerfielder Orlando Cruz led off with a home run and then Ben Tinius hammered a two run home run to left field to make it 3-0 Broncos.

The Coyotes got on the scoreboard on three straight hits in the top of the fourth inning, eventually scoring on a fielder's choice against Roque.

Laredo answered in the bottom of the fourth as Tinius singled home Maldonado with two outs to push the Broncos lead to 4-1.

In the bottom of the sixth Maldonado doubled then scored on a base hit by catcher Jose Salas to make it 5-1.

Coyotes catcher Robinson Cancel hit a solo homer off Roque in the top of the eighth to pull to within 5-2.

RHP Matt Zachary came on to work the top of the ninth for the Broncos and picked up the save with a scoreless inning of relief. Final Score Laredo 5, Edinburg 2.

Roque worked eight strong innings allowing two earned runs and got the win to improve to 6-5. Zachary allowed one hit in his inning of relief as he picked up his second save. Flores allowed seven hits and four earned runs and fell to 5-3.
