Roadtrip Is Homecoming For Guidugli

Green Bay Blizzard News Release

Green Bay Blizzard quarterback Gino Guidugli should feel pretty comfortable taking to the road this week. The Blizzard travel to Cincinnati to take on the Jungle Kats on Saturday July 14th at 6:30 p.m. CST. Guidugli's trip to Cincinnati will be more like a homecoming than a road game. Guidugli spent four outstanding years at the helm of the University of Cincinnati Bearcat offense and it is likely that fans around the city have not forgotten the player who wore number eight for the Bearcats from 2001-2004.

Guidugli gained popularity as a Bearcat not only because he started 44 of the team's 45 games from 2001 to 2004, but also because Guidugli completely rewrote the University of Cincinnati record book while he was at it. When the final whistle was blown to end the 2004 season and the numbers were all tallied, Gino Guidugli's career had proven to be the best in school history. Guidugli completed 880 of 1,556 passes for 11,453 yards and 78 touchdowns. Guidugli also rushed for 208 yards and five touchdowns during his career. Before the start of the 2004 season Guidugli had already captured most of the school's records for passing and total offense. Guidugli's career at Cincinnati was one of such prominence that his final career numbers almost double many of the records held by previous Bearcat standouts.

While Guidugli cemented his place in the consciousness of Cincinnati sports fans during his college playing days, it was in high school that Guidugli first started to get people's attention. While at Highlands High School in Fort Thomas, Kentucky Guidugli was named honorable mention on USA Today's High School All-American team after his senior year when he completed 260 of 404 passes for 4,367 yards and 51 touchdowns. Guidugli guided his high school team to become the first in school history to capture three consecutive state titles. Guidugli was not a single sport standout, however. Guidugli also lettered three times in basketball and was named MVP of the Kentucky Regional Tournament.

Though Guidugli is quiet by nature and would likely prefer to be out of the spotlight, he is an outstanding talent whose charisma on the field draws attention he may not always desire. Where ever Guidugli goes he seems to step into the record books. With the Blizzard, Guidugli has taken control of an offense that now seems to be hitting its stride. Last week against the Albany Conquest Guidugli led the Blizzard offense to score a season high 69 points. In route to the win Guidugli threw for nine touchdowns which was good enough to tie a team record for most touchdowns in a single game. Guidugli now shares the nine touchdown record with Chris Greisen who originally set the record on May 14, 2004. Guidugli can consider himself in good company as Griesen is now setting AFL records for touchdowns thrown with the Georgia Force. Blizzard coaches and fans seem to agree that the best is yet to come from Guidugli.
