Spokane Shock News Release

July 11, 2007- The Spokane Shock announced today that FB Ben Brown has been placed on reassignment by the League Office.

Katon Bethay, who has 9 touchdowns on the season and averages over five yards per carry, will take over the FB position.

"Ben had a great nose for the end zone, but the most important function of the fullback in our offense is pass protection," explained Head Coach Adam Shackleford. "Putting Katon at fullback upgrades our pass protection and our offense is definitely more efficient when we give our quarterback time to throw."

Bethay handled Brown's duties in the Shock's previous game, a victory over Central Valley in which the Shock scored a franchise-record 76 points.

"We recognize Ben's contributions to the Shock and wish him the best of luck in the future, but we owe it to our fans to do everything we can to be ready for a strong playoff run," said General Manager Adam Nebeker.

The Shock will announce the signing of a defensive lineman to take Bethay's place on defense later in the week.
