Mike Merriweather Added to "NFL Night" at Stockton Arena

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Lightning of the arenafootball2 league have announced former 11-year National Football League veteran linebacker and Stockton-local Mike Merriweather (Pittsburgh Steelers, Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets) is scheduled to appear at Stockton Arena for "NFL Night," as the Stockton Lightning face the Boise Burn beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 14.

Merriweather joins a lineup of former NFL players who are scheduled to be on-hand during the event, including former San Francisco 49ers greats Keena Turner, R.C. Owens, J.J. Stokes, former Oakland Raiders greats Jack Tatum and Jeff Jaeger, along with the "Gold Rush" cheerleaders, mascot "Sourdough Sam" of the 49ers and "Raiderettes" of the Raiders.

All fans in attendance are invited to wear their favorite NFL team's jersey and receive $2 off each ticket purchased at the Stockton Arena ticket office (on game day) for the Week 16 match-up against the Burn.

A raffle featuring NFL memorabilia will be held throughout the event to benefit the Boys and Girls Club with autograph opportunities available throughout the night.

Doors are scheduled to open at 6:00 p.m.

ABOUT MIKE MERRIWEATHER (LB):

A Stockton local who made it into the football spotlight as an 11-year NFL veteran, Merriweather is a University of Pacific graduate who was a four-year starter and two-time All-Pacific Coast Athletic Association performer for the Tigers football program.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound linebacker was a three-time Pro Bowl selection (1984-86) during his seven-year (1982-88) tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers, additionally earning Steelers MVP honors in 1987. Merriweather, who split the 1989-93 seasons between the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets, was selected in the third round of the 1982 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers and still holds Pittsburgh's single-season sack-record (15, set in 1984 which led the NFL that year).

The Lightning return home for week 16 with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff scheduled against the West Division-rival Boise Burn at Stockton Arena on Saturday, July 14.
