Roadrunners' win streak ends

HARLINGEN, TEXAS ---- The Edinburg Roadrunners' win streak ended at 12 games with a 6-2 loss at the hands of the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Saturday night at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings got on the board against Danny Rondon (4-1) in the first with a two run single by Alberto Cruz that drove in Welinson Baez and Jose Torres making it a 2-0 game.

The Roadrunners cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth on an RBI fielder's choice by Eric Gonzalez that allowed Hunter Owen to score making it 2-1.

In the bottom of the fourth the WhiteWings extended their lead on Cruz's 10th home run of the season making the score 4-1.

Edinburg scored another run against WhiteWings' starter Juan Peralta (2-3) in the top of the fifth on an RBI fielder's choice by Carlos Hereaud that allowed Nick Aranda to score making it a 4-2 game in favor of RGV.

The WhiteWings made it a three run game with an RBI single by Baez that allowed Santana to score from third making it a 5-2 game.

RGV scored an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on another RBI single by Baez that drove in Santana giving the WhiteWings the 6-2 advantage.

Julio Santana pitched two scoreless innings for his league leading 16th save of the season ending Edinburg's streak at 12 straight games.

The Roadrunners will travel to Robstown for a four-game series against the Coastal Bend Thunder starting Sunday night at Fairgrounds Field.
